Commemorating the 1300th Anniversary of
the Founding of Hasedera Temple,

the Head Temple in
Yamato Province
Kannon Coming from
Hasedera Temple in Yamato Province

In this special exhibition outside its temple home, Kannon (Skt. Avalokiteśvara) from Hasedera Temple will travel to various locations, offering people the opportunity to form a spiritual connection with the Kannon.

Beloved as a temple of flowers since the time of Manyōshū, Japan’s oldest poetry collection, Hasedera Temple is the head temple of the Buzan School of the Shingon Sect in the former Yamato Province, which is represented by a total of approximately 3,000 branch temples throughout Japan.
To commemorate the 1300th anniversary of the temple’s founding, occurring in 2026, we will hold a special Buddhist service for the special exhibition outside its temple home with the hope of reviving and spreading the Hase Kannon faith throughout Japan.

Information on the Special Exhibition Outside Its Temple Home

Traveling to various locations with a replica of the large hanging scroll depicting the life-size image of the Eleven-Headed Kannon (Skt. Ekādaśamukha Avalokiteśvara), which is the principal icon of Hasedera Temple and designated as an important cultural property of Japan, together with a fine replica of the Kannon’s feet, we will create a special prayer space reminiscent of the Main Hall.
Put your hands together in quiet prayer with the Buddhist priests.
This is a precious opportunity to experience the compassion of Hase Kannon and form a valuable, spiritual connection.
